Video Art at Bar Greulich
From January 2008 on, Pipilotti Rist’s "Die gelbe Fee in der Allee" (2007) ("The yellow fairy in the avenue", 2007) will be presented at Bar Greulich. The Swiss artist has designed this video installation especially for the hotel’s bar. It is a "poem on the absence of gravity, concentration and the subjectivity of one’s view". Be inspired by this idea!
The diminuative video on the "yellow fairy" will be shown in two different versions and in an endless loop, projected onto an almost invisible screen, which you will not notice on first sight. The projection screen is a sandblasted area of a bottle of spirit at the bar. Where you will normally find the label, a LED projector, hidden in the wall behind, screens the video onto the bottle's surface. In this way, "The yellow fairy in the avenue" becomes an integral part of the interior of Bar Greulich and is constantly visible.
Installations by Pipilotti Rist which play with similar, integrated bottles (depending on where the works are displayed) can be seen at the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. The artist was born in the Swiss town of Grabs in 1962. After Pipilotti Rist finished her design and photography studies in Vienna and audiovisual communication courses in Basel, renowned museums all over the world started to display and buy her works. Pipilotti Rist lives in Zurich and is an honorary professor at the Hochschule der Künste UdK (Berlin University of Arts). Amongst others, she received the Canton of St. Gallen Culture Award (2007), the City of Zurich Culture Award (2001), the Wolfgang Hahn Prize (1999), awarded by the Museum Ludwig in Cologne as well as the Premio 2000 at the Venice Biennial of Art (1997).
